Alaska King Crab

Thawing: Place frozen crab on a tray and cover with foil or plastic wrap. Thaw in refrigerator for 8 to 10 hours or overnight.

Cooking: King crab has already been fully cooked but should be heated before serving. We recommend the following methods:

• Steam: using a large pot, fill with water to depth of about ¾ inch and bring water to a boil. Place crab in pot
(inside steamer basket if you have one) cover pot, reduce heat and steam for about 4 to 5 minutes.

• Bake: place crab on a baking pan and heat at 400 degrees for about 4 minutes.

• Barbeque: place crab legs on rack above hot coals and heat for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally.

• Boiling: not really recommended as the crab tends to lose its flavor to the water. If you are going to boil,
don’t over do it. Two minutes maximum.

Storage: frozen King crab should be stored at 0 F. or below. King crab is coated with an ice “glaze” to help prevent dehydration, also known as “freezer burn” but should be wrapped in freezer paper. Frozen crab can be stored for about 4 months. “Chest” type freezers give better results as they do not have the circulating fans that dry out frozen foods. Thawed crab can be stored in a refrigerator from 2 to 3 days.
